The Music Series at South Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain, Connecticut
Richard Coffey, Artistic Director
Christine Laird, Managing Director
Entering its 39th season, The Music Series at South Church has a long history of bringing great music to the citizens of this region. Established in 1973, The Music Series mission and long range goal is to present concerts which feature high quality, outstanding nationally and internationally known artists, with admission affordable and accessible to all. Since 1973, the Music Series has been housed within the walls of New Britain’s South Church, the oldest ecclesiastical structure in the city, one listed in the National Register of Historic Places. We fully embrace the church’s motto “In the Heart of the City….for the Heart of the City.” Our varied concert programs range from solo recitals to major choral works, from chamber music to jazz, using the full potential of South Church’s beautiful architecture, instruments, and acoustics. Our fine Steinway grand piano and superb Gress-Miles pipe organ have been played by many world-renowned organists and pianists. All concerts are held in the sanctuary of SouthChurch, which has maximum available seating of 600.
In April, 2006 the New Britain Downtown District awarded the Music Series its first-ever “Downtown New Britain Arts Award” given in recognition of our “successful and pioneering music and arts program… providing a wildly popular cultural resource to the entire region.” The Music Series is proud of our legacy of bringing excellent musical events to the greater New Britain community.
